Chapter 4 - Required Research -> INFORMATION IS BEING PROCESSED!  How?

Fundamental Research needed:

INFORMATION IS BEING PROCESSED BY CELLS USING DNA "STORED DATA".  Many tera-bytes of INFORMATION IS ACCESSED AND PROCESSED to produce a specific cell growth and cell division pattern leading to a specific cell grouping and structure that is a specific animal with a preprogrammed neural network.   We haven't a clue how any of this DATA PROCESSING is done.  And of course, the "Gray matter" (preprogrammed neural network) of the animal processes data too.  Maybe we should look at that first.

INFORMATION IS BEING PROCESSED BY NEURAL NETWORKS IN ANIMALS PRODUCED AND PROGRAMMED BY CELLS USING DNA "STORED DATA".  Again many tera-bytes of INFORMATION IS ACCESSED AND PROCESSED into the animals functions from heart rate, to sleep, to finding food, to reproducing and learning.  And again, we haven't a clue how any of this completely different DATA PROCESSING is done. 

We know DNA "stored data" above is DNA stored "addresses" of data streams in Information Space.  Remember the "core" disappeared and only the logic circuits remained to reproduce the data addressed (Chapter 2 - The Infinite Capacity Memory).   I always thought of the chromosome as an information storage device, and when it was "filled up" the 2nd chromosome (animal) evolved, etc.

What information is being processed?  How is information being processed?   "Being processed" implies instructions (programs) on how to process information.  Are these programs stored as data?  If so then does the "processor" ( the neural network, the cell), separate instructions from data?

Learning --- What about Learning in neural networks?  What about Learning at the chromosome level?

Let's get back to basics

We have two kinds of "Programs" to analyze.  The first and easiest is those "Programs" stored in, and processed by, the neural networks of animals. The second is those "Programs" stored in DNA, chromosomes, RNA, etc. that produce the growth of cells into an animal.  Especially those that develop into neurons and produce "Programs" in neural networks. ---  A chick pecks is way out of its shell, says "peep peep" and walks (an elaborate neural network program) off pecking.  Herd animals get up and walk soon after birth.  Complex mating rituals and nest building in birds represent the storage and processing of more information in their neural network programs.  

Maybe we should start with worms (the nematode has only 302 neurons  saved ref) or some animal with even fewer neurons.  What we must determine is how the "Program" in these small neural networks is stored and executed.  This would mean determining what neural activity is associated with every action observed.  Is it a pattern of pulses traversing a part of the network?   Is it the timing between signals?  In groups of neurons?  All of the above?  Pretend we've found a tiny alien robot whose programs (organized neuron activity), processors (neurons and groups of neurons) and resulting (task oriented) data processing interactions must be determined exactly.  Advanced computer programmers, programmer analysts, systems analysts and systems designers familiar with Genetic (Computer) Programming will be required to translate actual biological programming (e.g. the worm's operating system) into computer programming terms.  We are seeking understanding, from of the simplest "commands" to the aggregate or grouping of those commands that are its "Sub-Programs" to its total "Program".  We seek to learn the "Programming Language" and data processing methodology of these small animal neural networks.

It may be necessary to begin with the earliest stages of worm development; from its first neuron in its early life to the first neuron connection to the second ... to the final adult worm.  This, of course will lead us directly into the second research area:  How and when did the early cell division produce a neuron, then two ... a group of "Programmed" neurons.  Understanding of the "Program" that controls cell division (organism growth) and the production of associated "Programmed" neural networks is the aim of the first phase of this second research area. Phase two extends to the "Programming" of Plant and animal life that do not have neurons.  Can we say we are studying DNA produced electrical programming for phase one and DNA produced chemical programming for phase two?

From Chapter 2, The Infinite Capacity Memory, we know that these neural networks store "addresses" (of information in Information Space) of long strings of data.   Furthermore we know that the storage of long strings of data (e.g. long term visual memory) takes a significant amount of real time (review & Tag Storage) giving rise to the need for animals to sleep during this process.  When you get to word n, you know it is not only the last word in a long string of data.  It is also the physical "address" of that string stored in Information Space.

 

Evolve Genetic Programs that mimic the simplest neural networks and their activities.  We must understand the simplest neural network's program(s).

 

Develop/Evolve computer programs to model one celled animals' activities.  We need to understand how the paramecium "knows" (information processing, information transmitted from it's genes) how to move, find food, etc.  Additional research into flora growth must be conducted.

 

Neuron network growth

Evolve Genetic Programs that mimic the genetic information transfer in the growth of simple neural networks from one cell to one neuron, two neurons (what part of the end program), three neurons, etc, the 302 neurons in the nematode   or some simpler animal.  We must learn how the program is grown, neuron by neuron.

 

Cell group growth  

Note: Cancer is an "abnormal" growth of cell group(s).  It may be the regenerative process, we see in frogs, gone awry in humans.

Evolve/Develop programs to simulate the DNA information transfer in the growth of the simple animal including all cells, (cell by cell growth) from one cell to fully grown animal.  We must learn how the information to grow this simple animal is stored in DNA helixes. 

 

Neural network evolution

Evolve Genetic Programs to evolve these DNA (information filled) spirals.  We must find out how the DNA spirals get the data (information) that the cell uses to grow into the simplest animal.

 

Repeat for increasingly larger animals

We need to know how the programming of birds develops (GPS-like flying memory, nest building, mating rituals, etc.).  We need to learn how the chicken's neural net program works: With built in information/program, the chick breaks open it's egg, walks, peeps and pecks.
