Morality

ON MORALITY

Many people talk of moral decay and talk of prayer in schools as a part of the solution. I don't think any of them know what morality is.

1. GREED is immoral. GREED is no longer a deadly sin in our society, it is now a virtue. GREED is behind most of what is rotten in this country (whatever sells, good or bad, its business). I never hear the media or the religious pundits mention exploding GREED in their moral decay statements: $30 million a year executive salary (including stock and/or options) is now normal. Does anyone really believe school prayer is going to change the subversion of our children by a "ratings" (BIG BUCKS) driven media that shows them how to commit every crime ever reported or imagined (action movies).

2. FAILURE TO HELP THE POOR is immoral. POVERTY and HOMELESSNESS are blamed on the poor in a media blitz. So we cut welfare because we need the money for jails and to support the Police State required to contain and control the poor. Prisons have become the new slavery (also immoral, but nothing new to the U.S.) and a big business becoming bigger. These business' profits do not go to help the poor or the incarcerated slaves, it goes into the pockets of corporate leaders, the rich and efforts to increase the numbers of slaves. (greed) The Bible repeatedly stresses helping the poor but today we have more poor and homeless than ever before. Again, I never hear the media or religious pundits addressing THIS AREA OF SERIOUS MORAL DECAY. I never hear anyone mention the fact that, due to "continuous process improvement" and "automation", soon there might never again be enough jobs to go around.

3. PANDERING is immoral. Media catering to, and expanding, our LUST FOR VIOLENCE is PANDERING. In the name of FREE SPEECH the media continues to escalate this pollution of our society. It is also immoral for the media to push claims that this BIG MONEY MAKING (greed) ACTIVITY has no effect on violence in society, while suppressing or ignoring decades of studies proving otherwise. Even the news is a constant litany of ills, evils, ..., bad news and NOTHING BUT BAD NEWS. It's depressing for adults and the associated fear adds to the stress of modern living. I tell my friends with young children not to allow their children to watch TV at all. (fat chance) Especially not the news. Exceptions are only for educational (appropriate and non-violent content) programs.

4. INTOLERANCE and DISCRIMINATION are immoral. Teaching children to hate Blacks, Hispanics, Indians, Jews, Arabs and others, continues today as in the past. Hate websites target our children to spread the hate. The media leads the way by distorting the news to show Blacks as criminals as often as possible and Whites as law abiding. Recent studies and the doctoral thesis of Dr. Camille Cosby show the high level of discrimination in the media and its devastating effects on the entire society. Discrimination flourishes in spite of the laws against it: MORAL DECAY or business as usual? This National immorality has continued in this country since the beginning. Even the founding fathers were slave owners and discriminated against Blacks. It's hard to call this moral decay since it's always been that way in the U.S. Prayer in the schools didn't change it either. I have never forgotten the words of the escaped slave Fredrick Douglas: "THE MORE RELIGIOUS THE MASTER, THE MORE HE BEAT THE SLAVES".

5. CHEATING is immoral. The phrase today is: "If you're not cheating, you're not trying hard enough". Everybody does it any time they think they can get away with it, from taxes, donations to the poor, change at the store, on resumes, etc. (greed) Going to church and praying to God has not improved this situation. Cheating in schools is at an all time high.
