Subject: health insurance CEO salaries & profits
Saving the "For Profit" health care system benefits who (patients ? taxpayers ? CEOs ? Stockholders? Lobbyist ? Drug companies ?) and is paid for by whom (premiums, government payouts like Medicare/Medicaid, etc. = YOU and me of course).
Health insurance CEO salaries (aver $24 million/year and $600 million over 5 years) are high and increasing. click ref. 1 (or http://blogs.webmd.com/mad-about-medicine/2007/08/ceo-compensation-who-said-healthcare-is.html)
Salaries to other execs, bonuses, perks, profit, lobbyist, campaign contributions, TV ads & attack TV ads
(e.g. "you don't want a government run healthcare system"), etc. --- How much of your health care dollar goes for these? 10%, 20%, 30%?Profits are up too. "According to the report, the big three carriers in Washington, Regence BlueShield, Premera Blue Cross and Group Health Cooperative saw profits increase from $11 million in 2002 to $243 million in 2003 and $431 million in 2006. Their cash surplus went from $833 million in 2002 to $2.2 billion (with a "B") in 2006. Interestingly enough they did it while covering less people. Over 2.37 million people were covered by the three in 2002 compared to 1.9 million in 2006. So the cost of health care is still going up, but the profits by private health insurance companies are rising even faster. The article shows medical costs rose 16 percent in the same period that health insurance profits went up 23 percent. In 2007, Washington legislators tried to pass a law allowing the Insurance Commissioner to regulate health insurance rates. The law failed. I wonder who lobbied lawmakers to stop it? Consumers who like paying higher insurance rates?" click ref 2(or http://vancouver.injuryboard.com/miscellaneous/private-health-insurance-profits-soar.aspx?googleid=230780)
Why don't we have universal health care after decades of efforts and attempts?

Oh come on Ron! Are you really falling for that socialism bull?
Is Canada a socialist country? They have universal free health care. What about England? They have universal free health care also. Then we have Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Holland, France, Germany, with free universal health care.
When I lived in Copenhagen (2 to 4 months each year 1966 - 70), I was shocked to learn that everyone paid 50% of their income in taxes. In 1966 I thought that was outrageous. Then in 1968 I met a lady who was 40+ and a disabled ex-nurse. The state paid for her apartment, food, health care and more. I couldn't believe it. Later after returning to the states, I calculated that we pay over 70% in taxes and health care premiums; But we get much less than the Danes get for their 50% taxes. We are getting ripped-off big-time in costs and taxes. (click illegal taxes)
Equating helping people with socialism is nothing but a scare tactic to sucker us into maintaining a system where it is profitable to deny health care.
Wake up!
Capitalism is not the best solution to every human need. Capitalism thrives on slavery. Doesn't that give you a clue? There are some fundamental conflicts involved. Check out Freedom, Democracy and Capitalism - A 6 Way Tug of WAR.Stop pushing the socialism bull. These people are not your friends. Their only interest is in more profits from out of control capitalism.
Don't stop thinking.

Sure is timely, huh?????
Norman Matton
Thomas (November 20, 1884 - December 9, 1968) was a leading American socialist, pacifist, and six-time presidential candidate for the Socialist Party of America. He was ordained as a Presbyterian minister in 1911. As a candidate for President of the U. S., Norman Thomas said, in a 1944 epoch speech:
"The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of "liberalism", they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day
America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened."He went on to say:
"I no longer need to run as a Presidential Candidate for the Socialist Party. The Democratic Party has adopted our platform."
